Lithuanian court orders Viasat to pay EUR 2.2 million for copyright infringements

The Vilnius Regional Court on Nov. 12 upheld complaints filed by the Lithuanian neighboring rights association Agata, the Lithuanian copyright protection association Latga and the audiovisual authors and producers’ association Avaka.

Viasat must to pay 4.103 million litas in remuneration, 286,300 litas in interest and 5 percent interest to Latga, 1.937 million litas, 130,700 litas and 5 percent interest to Agata and 960,000 litas, 35,500 litas and 5 percent interest to Avaka, respectively.

Gediminas Galkauskas, head of public relations at Viasat, told BNS that the company was looking into the situation and could not make a more detailed comment at the moment.

The court also ordered Viasat to stop retransmitting the programs until the company had signed certain agreements with the associations.
