The Lithuanian Migration Department granted Yasser Al-Any and his family temporary legal protection, which would only allow them to remain in Lithuania for several years, but the family believes that they deserve refugee status, which would allow them to stay indefinitely. Legal protection also does not guarantee any sort of financial support or other guarantees.
The court can decide to return the case to the Migration Department to be reconsidered, or it can reject the appeal as unfounded.
As part of the EU’s refugee agreement, Lithuania has agreed to accept 1,105 refugees over two years.
