Lithuanian dairy farmers in for €24m support

After the European Commission has greenlit €13 million in subsidies for Lithuanian dairy farmers, the Lithuanian government will add another €11 million that has been promised before, the country’s agriculture minister has said.

The ministry will also discuss the rest of the support, about €2 million, with the government, Virginija Baltraitienė adds.

In all, Lithuanian dairy farmers are to receive over €26 million of support.

Farmers say they have been severely hit by low milk prices and Russia’s embargo on EU food imports, asking for government support to stay afloat.

The Lithuanian government distributed €18 million among dairy farmers in May-June this year. Another €17 million in advance payments was disbursed in June-July.
