Lithuanian embassy asks Israel to explain deportation of Lithuanian activist

DELFI / Kiril Čachovskij

“After receipt of a written plea from Tervidyte, we have turned to the Consular Division of the Foreign Ministry of Israel asking to explain the reasons behind refusal of entry to the Lithuanian citizen,” Kęstutis Vaškelevičius, spokesman for the Lithuanian foreign minister said.

He emphasised it was a regular procedure and practice applied by embassies of Lithuania and other countries of the European Union (EU) in Israel after denial of entry to EU citizens.

Tervidytė was detained at the David Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv in April and sent back to Lithuania a few days later.

She is convinced she was banned from entering Israel due to her work in Palestine.

Tervidytė said she had been carrying out projects involving work with NGOs in Palestine for a number of years with several of these projects financed by Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry.
