Lithuanian Energy Ministry ‘may run electricity capacity auctions in 2017’

“The Energy Ministry is very seriously considering the option of running power reserve auctions. First, however, we want to gather information from market players, listen to their suggestions and assess the situation,” Vice Minister Rokas Baliukovas said during a meeting with energy companies.

Energy producers will be asked to share information about their electricity production facilities and their condition. The companies would need to make sure that their facilities could be turned on within a 12-hour notice at any time.

The announcement was made after a meeting with a range of Lithuanian energy companies and consumers including Lithuanian Energy, Vilnius heating network, Kaunas Heat and Power Plant, Panevėžys energy, Achema and Orlen Lithuania.
