“One of the key goals is to get a closer look at the economic situation in Ukraine and how the country is withstanding aggression. The Minsk agreements and their implementation will also be discussed,” Kęstutis Vaškelevičius, spokesman for Linkevičius, told BNS on the eve of the visit.
In his words, ongoing reforms in Ukraine, Lithuania’s further support for this country, Ukraine-EU relations, the business environment and regional political issues will also be touched upon.
Linkevičius is scheduled to meet with Yatsenyuk as well as with Oleksandr Turchynov, secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, in Kiev on Thursday.
And the Lithuanian foreign minister’s meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Klimkin will take place during his visit to Odessa on Friday. In Odessa, Linkevičius will also meet with Odessa Oblast Governor Mikheil Saakashvili, Odessa City Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov, representative of NGOs working in the Donbas region where a war between Ukrainian government forces and pro-Russian separatists has been going on for more than a year.
Linkevičius is also set to meet with Lithuanian experts working in Ukraine.
Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas is currently also in Ukraine, and Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius plans to go to Ukraine in late August.
