The minister also expressed his gratitude to Hungary for its solid security efforts in our region. Hungary was among the first European NATO countries to send its rotation forces to Lithuania which helped to reinforce NATO security measures in the Baltic region. At the end of last year 140 Hungarian troops took part in joint trainings and exercise together with Lithuanian soldiers.
The issue of illegal migration which is of particular importance was also addressed at the meeting. The ambassador expressed serious concerns over the current situation, especially migrant flows which rise on every day. Linkevičius noted that comprehensive and consistent efforts are needed to tackle the causes of migration, and Lithuania is prepared to contribute to common solutions.
Participants of the meeting agreed that the EU should actively look for common solutions, negotiations should take place on all levels and a solution must be found to fight the causes and consequences of illegal migration.
