The Lithuanian minister will attend the debate at the invitation of the president of Poland which is a non-permanent Council member in 2018-2020 and chairs the Council in May.
Linkevičius is also scheduled to meet with Rosemary Anne DiCarlo, UN under-secretary-general for political affairs, and Jean-Pierre Lacroix , under-secretary-general for peacekeeping operations, Lithuania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
During the meetings, Linkevičius plans to discuss the UN agenda’s priorities important for Lithuania as well as the Baltic country’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions.
The foreign minister will also have breakfast with business representatives and discuss Lithuania’s economy, possible exports and investment directions.
Linkevičius will be in New York until Friday.
