Lithuanian government supports online voting

“Such form of voting is very relevant for people of younger age, furthermore, online voting would be a far more convenient option for citizens who live outside Lithuania,” Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius said in a press release.

Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis and Transport and Communications Minister Rimantas Sinkevičius have submitted legal amendments, proposing to allow online voting in elections for president, the parliament, local governments, the European Parliament and referendums. The bills were submitted to the parliament last November.

A poll carried out for the Justice Ministry has shown that 65 percent of the population support the online voting idea.
