Lithuanian-grown peas go to India

This year, Lithuanian farmers have doubled their pea crops compared to last year. Within a couple of weeks, the first ships, each with 25,000 tons of peas, will leave the Klaipėda port for India.

“Some farmers may find it difficult to sell everything at once. The reason? Very good pea harvests in Canada, Russia and France. All of these countries are our competitors. They also export them to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh,” said the head of Linas Agro Group Baltic grain trade department Dainius Pilkauskas.

Last year, Lithuanian processors purchased nearly 5,000 tons of peas, while 500,000 tons were exported to India.
