Lithuanian Liberals hope to triple seats while Conservatives target ruling coalition in upcoming elections

Meanwhile the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats are targetting 40-45 seats in the parliament (the party currently has 32)

Conservative leader Gabrielius Landsbergis told LRT that his party’s goal is to have a group that would become the forming axis of the ruling coalition.

Liberal leader Eligijus Masiulis said “Our goals are indeed ambitious. We believe that 30 seats would be a great result.”

However, the magazine Veidas forecasts that the liberals could double the number of seats they currently have and get 21 parliamentarians elected, which is significantly less than what the party is hoping for. Masiulis says that the party will be able to win 16-17 seats from the list and 13-15 seats in single-member constituencies.

Veidas magazine is predicting the Conservatives will win 26 seats in the next parliament.

“God forbid, we are not predicting what Veidas predicts. In fact, we are talking about the growth of the number of seats. If today we have 33, our goal is to have 40 seats. 45 is a solid majority which allows to feel comfortable in formation of a new government. So 40-45 mandates is what we aim at,” Landsbergis said.
