The prime minister’s spokeswoman Evelina Butkutė Lazdauskienė told BNS that Butkevičius would be back in office as planned, on Tuesday, February 9. He is on holiday since January 26 and, according to information available to BNS, is vacationing in the Caribbean.

“The prime minister does not plan on cancelling his vacation,” said Butkutė Lazdauskienė.

Last week, Healthcare Minister Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė of the ruling Social Democrats decided to resign following calls to step down from the prime minister, other party fellows and the president. The calls to resign came after reports about the minister’s recent questioning as a witness in an investigation of a suspected corruption plot in a Šiauliai hospital. No suspicions have been brought against her.

Meanwhile, the Special Investigation Service (STT) on Tuesday confirmed plans of interviewing Environment Minister Kęstutis Trečiokas of the Order and Justice party as a special witness. The STT also intends to speak to the prime minister in the probe of the influence to a governmental resolution.

Both Šalaševičiūtė and Trečiokas joined the government in July 2014.
