Lithuanian president accepts letters from ambassador of Honduras

The president and the ambassador discussed bilateral trade relations and ways to expand them. According to the president, a more intensive dialogue on tourism, joint cultural projects and academic exchange would enhance mutual trust and collaboration.

The president pointed out that Central American countries maintained successful trade links with the European Union, adding that Lithuania and Honduras should develop bilateral relations more intensively.

Dalia Grybauskaitė invited Honduran students to come to Lithuania where a range of studies in English were offered by local universities. One young person from Honduras is currently studying in Lithuania.

The meeting also focused on Eastern Ukraine. The president underlined that it was very important at this point in time for the international community to stand strong and united.

Lithuania and Honduras established diplomatic relations ten years ago, on 26 January 2005.

The ambassador, born in 1949, is married, with a son and daughter. He graduated in law and social sciences in 1972. Five years later he started a diplomatic career. He served as foreign minister between 1999 and 2002. He was appointed ambassador, permanent representative to the United Nations in New York. He was also chief of mission in the United States, Germany, before the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva. Since 2012, he has been ambassador to Belgium and Head of Mission to the European Union. Roberto Flores Bermudez speaks English, French and German.
