The president and the new Ambassador discussed relations between Lithuania and Germany as well as economic cooperation and regional security issues.
According to the president, the two countries are linked by strong bilateral relations and close business ties. Germany is an important and reliable trade partner of Lithuania and one of the largest investors in our country.
The president noted that both countries could better exploit the bilateral economic potential as Lithuania is a strategically attractive country for investment. She urged to further strengthen public and cultural diplomacy relationship.
Jutta Schmitz, 57, is a historian and political scientist. Before her appointment to Lithuania, the diplomat headed the political affairs unit at the permanent mission of Germany to the United Nations Office and Other International Organisations in Geneva. Earlier she had worked at the embassy in Beijing, permanent mission to the United Nations in New York, permanent representation to NATO in Brussels, and other diplomatic missions.
