Lithuanian president welcomes new ambassador of Denmark

According to the President, Lithuanian-Danish cooperation in the EU and NATO is based on the principle of mutual understanding. The President thanked Denmark for its significant contribution to setting up a NATO Force Integration Unit in Vilnius. This center of the Alliance will be headed by Danish army colonel Jakob Søgård Larsen.

This year, Denmark is coordinating cooperation between eight Nordic and Baltic countries (NB8). Among the other issues discussed at the meeting were priority issues of NB8 relating to Ukraine and the Eastern Partnership as well as to energy and information security. The President highlighted the importance of information security in order to ensure greater resistance of societies to manipulations and hostile propaganda.

Views were also exchanged on economic cooperation. Bilateral trade turnover between Lithuania and Denmark amounted to nearly one billion euros in 2014. Denmark has been among ten biggest foreign investors in our country for many years now. According to the President, mutual cooperation continues to be very promising; therefore, it is necessary to maintain a similar or even faster growth of trade.

Dan E. Frederiksen is the sixth Danish ambassador to Lithuania. The diplomat holds a degree in political sciences. He has served in the Danish diplomatic service since 1990. Dan E. Frederiksen worked in Danish representations in the United Nations Office at Geneva. He was Head of Departments for Southern Africa, International Cooperation on Environment Issues as well as United Nations and World Bank at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark. In the period 2007-2012, he served as ambassador to South Africa. Before his appointment as ambassador to Lithuania, Dan E. Frederiksen was ambassador to Uganda.
