Lithuanian prosecutors continue investigation into swine fever outbreak

Various versions are under investigation, no charges have been made yet.

Prosecutor Alfredas Bacys, who is leading the pre-trial investigation, has refrained from providing more information as the investigation has just been launched.

“It is only the beginning of the investigation. There are versions, there are many questions that have to be answered; therefore, I cannot tell anything concrete,” said the prosecutor.

Bacys confirmed that there were no suspects in the investigation.

According to the prosecutors, it is intended to complete the investigation as soon as possible, although the Criminal Code provides for a term of up to six months.

ASF has been found in one of the largest pig farms in Lithuania. The Office of Prosecutor General was addressed with a request to launch an investigation into the incident, suspecting the farm complex could have been infected on purpose.
