The prosecutors see last month’s disclosure of the declassified document as “a formal violation that does not entail criminal liability”.
VSD spokeswoman Aurelija Katkuvienė told BNS that the intelligence agency would not appeal the decision.
The media last month made public a part of the information on businesses’ influence on political processes that the intelligence agency had provided to the country’s top officials and the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defense. Most of the information was on MG Baltic, one of Lithuania’s biggest business groups.
VSD on May 23 turned to law-enforcement bodies over potentially unlawful disclosure of the intelligence information.
In making the decision not to launch an investigation, the prosecutors took into account the fact that the document had been declassified and was subsequently published by the Seimas committee itself.
