Lithuanian regulator drops idea to request data on internet browsing

Vida Press nuotr.

The RRT has said in a press release that it is currently consulting with the State Data Protection Inspectorate on possible alternatives that would allow the authority to more efficiently investigate cyber incidents without raising privacy concerns.

The RRT on 12 September asked internet service providers in writing to start supplying internet users’ data, including the source and destination IP addresses and logical port number, within three months.

The Lithuanian Cable Television Association complained to the State Data Protection Inspectorate about the request from Feliksas Dobrovolskis, head of the RRT.

The communications regulator has come under criticism in the media and from politicians for its decision to request such information.
