The respective draft amendments will be tabled during the parliament’s fall session, which is starting next week, LFGU Chairman Ramūnas Karbauskis said on Tuesday.
“We propose to make it mandatory both for someone who meets with an interest group over one or another bill and for the interest group to declare their meeting, to declare their interest,” Karbauskis told reporters.
“The aim is to make all this entire lobbying process more transparent through politicians,” he said.
Under the existing law, only lobbyists have the duty to declare lobbyist activities.
Proponents of the new regulation say it would allow the Chief Official Ethics Commission to ensure greater control during cross-checks.
According to the LFGU’s press release, politicians and interest groups would have to make information about their meetings available on a special online platform accessible for members of the public and for transparency supervising authorities.
