Lithuanian scientists patent world-first in laser technology

“The essential thing which we can do and the others can not is that we can cut a tempered glass. If you try to somehow affect a tempered glass, for example a car’s glass, it immediately shatters into pieces, but we have created a new technology which does not break the glass and can cut it very precisely,” said Eugenijus Kurtinaitis, the head of the Photonics Laboratory.

A US company which makes the extremely hard Gorilla Glass has already taken an interest in the new technology. Gorilla glass is used in many technology products and from now it will be cut using Lithuanian technology. The laser can get a clean cut on a 0.1mm thick glass.
