Lithuanian Seimas finishes debating Labour Code reform

DELFI / Šarūnas Mažeika

Only 58 members of the 141-seat Seimas took part in the vote on Friday.

The document will now be analysed by the parliament’s Legal Department.

The final vote has not been scheduled yet.

After the document is edited, lawmakers will be able to propose amendments to the bill, expected to be numerous. The amendments will be discussed by the parliament’s Committee on Social Affairs and Labour and will then come up for a plenary vote.

The new Labour Code is expected to be passed by the summer and will take effect in early 2017.
