World champion Danas Rapšys wins another medal, this time – silver
Danas Rapšys followed up his gold medal triumph in 400m men’s free style swimming with a silver medal, finishing second in 200m men’s free style swimming.
The Lithuanian’s result of 1.41,78 min was only surpassed by America’s Blake Pieroni with a result of 1.41,49 min. Third place went to Australia’s Alexander Graham with a result of 1.42,28.
D. Rapšys is still to start in the 100m free style and 200m backstroke competitions.
Meilutytė makes her mark as well: silver medal won in world championship
Rūta Meilutytė has won the silver medal in 50m women’s breaststroke.
The Lithuanian swimmer took second place with a result of 29.38 seconds against the gold medallist Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson’s 29.05, passing Italy’s Martina Carraro (29.59 seconds).
R. Meilutytė was the gold medallist in this bracket in the 2012 and 2014 championships. At the Katar championship in 2014, her result in the bracket was 28.84 seconds, while in the Istanbul championship in 2012 – 29.44 seconds. In the 2014 championship, Rūta also obtained a world championship record in 50m breaststroke, finishing within 28.81 seconds.
R. Meilutytė is still to participate in the 100m breaststroke, 100m free style and 100m individual medley competitions.
