Following the reform, soldiers’ pay would increase by 10-30 percent. The ministry also suggests changing the pay system for soldiers by introducing special rates depending on the length of their service, as well as changing the bonus system.
Under the reform plan, daycare centers for soldier’s children would be founded and the ministry would also pay for health promotion services, first of all, therapy for injured soldiers.
The reform would need around 84 million euros, and the changes would be aimed at promoting professional service.
Vytautas Bakas, chairman of the Seimas Committee on National Security and Defense, told the daily that money for raising soldiers’ pay and ensuring their social guarantees would come from additional funding for the national defense system.
