“Today we have agreed with the prime minister that Karoblis will be a vice minister,” he told BNS.
Karoblis will replace Rolandas Kriščiūnas who has been appointed Lithuania’s ambassador to the United States, and will be responsible for EU affairs and economic diplomacy.
Karoblis, 47, led the Lithuanian EU mission for five years. His position was especially important in the second half of 2013 when Lithuania held the rotating EU presidency.
“He had the chance to get in-depth information about activity of all Lithuanian ministries, problems, the European Commissions’ work priorities and inter-institutional communication. He will be able to successfully use everything he has accumulated while working in Brussels here in Lithuania,” Linkevičius said.
Karobilis will be replaced by former presidential adviser Jovita Neliupšienė as Lithuania’s EU ambassador. And ex-Lithuanian Ambassador to the US Žygimantas Pavilionis will coordinate Eastern Partnership issues in Vilnius.
Besides Karbolis, Linkevičius has three more deputies: Mantvydas Bekešius, Neris Germanas and Andrius Krivas.
