The decision was passed by general consensus by the outgoing Vilnius City Council on Wednesday.

“There are very few people, especially in such top positions, who always understood and always supported the city of Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital and divide decisions by belonging to one political party of another,” outgoing Mayor Artūras Zuokas said at the meeting.

Brazauskas passed away on 26 June 2010 at the age of 78. He served as Lithuania’s president in 1993-1998 and headed the government in 2001-2006.
