The decision came after a meeting with Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis on Wednesday.
The minister’s adviser Viktoras Bachmetjevas said Kontrimas had again asked to be dismissed from the position earlier on Wednesday.
In mid-July, a meeting among former MP Greta Kildišienė, a few public relations experts, lawyer Liudvika Meškauskaitė and the ruling Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union‘s leader Ramūnas Karbauskis took place in the premises of Kontrimas-controlled public relations company PR Service / Edelman Affiliate – Kontrimas then tried keeping journalists from establishing whether the persons were in the facilities and later blocked the door of a room to keep them from leaving.
Bachmetjevas said on Tuesday that a team set up by the ministry had established that Kontrimas was not at his work after work hours, therefore, did not breach his administrative duty.
Meanwhile, Kontrimas dismissed the criticism, accusing journalists of unethical behavior.
