The parliament will return to the issue next week after the submission of conclusions by two parliamentary committees.
The amendments, which are intended to protect small dairy farmers, propose to fix minimum prices at which they must be paid for milk: €165 per ton for dairy processors and €130 per ton for intermediaries.
However, they measure has been criticized both by farmers and milk processors as well as economic experts.
The minimum milk purchase prices offered to small farmers are much lower at present, which is why dairy processors have said that, as a result of these amendments, they will terminate all contracts and will only purchase milk from farmers asking for acceptable milk prices.
The Lithuanian Milk Producers Association on Wednesday staged a protest in the centre of Vilnius in an attempt to draw attention to problems plaguing the dairy sector.
