At a closed sitting on Tuesday, the LSDP’s board voted for preliminary candidates who will compete in single-member constituencies in 2016 elections to the Seimas. Approximately 60 nominees will be introduced to their colleagues and the public right after Easter, on 7 April, at the party’s headquarters.

“There is no reason to delay. The earlier we begin preparing for elections to the Seimas the better the outcome. Major cities are especially important to us, but we are not forgetting provinces either. We are launching indirect election campaign as of now. We must win the Seimas elections in the similar fashion as in 1992 – with an absolute majority,” said Algirdas Sysas, Head of the LSDP’s election headquarters.

Internal discussions about who should be nominated for the upcoming parliamentary elections in the regions and cities have started even prior to the recent municipal elections.

According to Sysas, the party’s congress that will convene in May will decide on the candidates, whereas the final list will become clear in the autumn.
