“Jerusalem is the historic capital of the Jewish state, therefore, moving diplomatic representation there would restore historic justice. Israel is the only democratic state in the region and a loyal ally of Western countries,” Laurynas Kasčiūnas, a member of the TS-LKD political group in the Seimas said in a statement.
Dainius Kreivys, another member of the group, added that „Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, just like Vilnius is the capital of our state.”
The United States opened its embassy in Jerusalem on Monday, six months after American President Donald Trump recognized the city as Israel’s capital. The move sparked protests near the border of the Gaza Strip and Israel, costing lives of 58 people.
