Lithuania’s unemployment rate falls again in April

Lithuania’s unemployment rate dropped from to 8.2% in April as unemployment across the European Union fell slightly from 8.8% to 8.7%, according to Eurostat data.

This is a slight decrease on the 8.4% unemployment rate seen in Lithuania in April and is down from 9.4% in the same period last year. Eurozone unemployment rates in April remained unchanged at 10.2% month on month, but unemployment rates were down from 11% in the same month last year.

In April, there were 121,000 people unemployed in Lithuania. Just over 21 million people in the EU were unemployed, with 16 million of those in the Eurozone, according to Eurostat.

The lowest unemployment rate was recorded in the Czech Republic (4.1%), Germany (4.2%) and Malta (4.3%). It remained the highest in southern European countries with Greece at 24.2% and Spain at 20.1%.

Youth unemployment in Lithuania dropped from 14.2% to 13.8% during April and it fell from 21.4% to 21.1% in the Eurozone. EU youth unemployment also remained stubbornly high down from 19% to 18.8%.

The lowest unemployment rate among young people was recorded in Germany (7%), Malta (8.9%) and the Czech Republic (9.5%). The highest youth unemployment was recorded in Greece (51.4%), Spain (45%), Croatia (38.9%) and Italy (36.9%).
