The money will be allocated to the Vilnius Gaon Jewish State Museum as the founder of the center, the Culture Ministry said.

The branch of the museum will be set up in the historic building on central Pylimo Street, which accommodated the Tarbut Jewish Gymnasium in the interwar period. The building has been listed as cultural heritage.

With the help of works of art, documents and other artifacts accumulated by the Gaon Museum and other institutions, the new center will present the contribution of Jews of Lithuania to the global evolution of cultural, scientific and philosophical thought.

The Litvak Cultural and Arts Center is expected to attract 40,000 visitors annually. The center should open in over two years.
