Majority of businesses in Lithuania say tax system biggest problem

Fifty-seven percent of Lithuanian companies and 75% of foreign companies have named taxes and tax system as the biggest problem for business, a small and medium-sized enterprises‘ Spinter survey commissioned by Citadele bank shows.

Trading companies feel the tax burden the heaviest while in Vilnius, 80.8% of companies identify taxes as the biggest business problem.

Lithuanian companies identified gaining credit as the least problematic area, with just 4.8% of surveyed companies claimed getting a loan is the hardest part for the business.

“The survey shows that the tax burden is not the most painful for small, but medium sized enterprises – as many as 71% of companies with 51 to 250 employees claimed taxes are the biggest burden for their companies,” said Juratė Jazukevičienė, the head of Citadele Bank business banking division.

By type of activity, the burden of the tax system is felt the most by traders (74.8%) and manufacturers (61%), and the least by intellectual (51.5%) and physical (50%) services companies.
