MG Baltic turns to court over intelligence report

“A suit was filed today. We are asking for the information that does not correspond to reality to be refuted,” MG Baltic spokesman Tadas Marčiukaitis told BNS.

The suit was filed with the Vilnius City District Court, he added.

VSD said that they had not received any information on the suit and were not commenting on it.

“We haven’t yet received any official information. Everyone is free to go to court,” Aurelija Katkuvienė, the intelligence agency’s spokeswoman, told BNS.

The agency’s report to the parliament’s Committee on National Security and Defense, which was made public last week, gives an outline of MG Baltic’s influence on political parties, Vilnius’ local authority, the State Tax Inspectorate, the law-enforcement, the Transport Ministry and other authorities.

The department says that MG Baltic, in pursuing its interests, mapped out a long-term strategy that can be regarded as destructive activity that can destabilize the democratic political system and thus poses a threat to national security.
