About 50 people gathered in the railway station on the early morning to welcome the group of young people who are due to meet with President Dalia Grybauskaitė later in the day.
This year, 16 members of the Mission Siberia team visited Irkutsk to manage deportee graves in Tulun and Nizhneudinsk districts, as well as communicate Lithuanian deportees still living in Siberia.
Over 100 Lithuanian cemeteries have been cleaned up since the launch of Mission Siberia expeditions in 2006. More than 12,000 young people have applied to take part in the difficult trips to exile sites.
After the Soviets occupied Lithuania, around 130,000 people were deported from the country between 1940 and 1953.
