Over the first quarter of this year, more energy-efficient buildings were registered than during the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Environment.
Data provided by the Contrustion Production Certification Centre (SPSC) indicated that 6 A+ class – the highest class available – energy efficient buildings were registered in February and March, while not a single building in this class was registered during the same time last year. The number of A-class certificates has increased almost 8 times over. 15 were registered during the first quarter of this year, and only two were registered during the first quarter of last year. The number of B-class buildings registered by April 1st jumped by 76 from 838 to 914.
Over all, a total of 7,399 energy efficiency certificates were issued during the first quarter of 2016, compared to 7,230 last year. The process of energy efficiency certification in Lithuania began in 2007. Since then, more than 132,000 energy-efficient buildings have received certificates.
Buildings are separated into 9 classes based on their energy efficiency: A++, A+, A, B, C, D, E, F and G. The highest class, A++, indicates that a building uses almost no energy. These buildings are registered and certified by the SPSC, and a list of certified buildings and the experts who certified them can be found on their website.
