In July of the current year, the destination of most planes departing from Vilnius airport was Riga, Warsaw and Helsinki – there were 170 flights (or 61.2 percent more flights than on the same time last year), 164 flights (or 64 percent more flights than last year) and 100 flights (or 56 percent more flights than last year) accordingly. The fourth most popular flight destination of July was Vilnius – Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport. Aircraft took off from Lithuania to the capital of Russia 95 times (or 72.6 percent more frequently than on the same time last year). The fifth most popular destination was Vilnius-Frankfurt. Planes departed 83 times from the capital of Lithuania to this German city (57.8 percent more frequently than on the same time last year), according to the data of Oro navigacija – a state enterprise providing air navigation services in Lithuanian airspace.
In July, the most frequent flight destinations of transit routes through Lithuania, which connect two airports in other countries, were as follows: Paris Charles de Gaulle – Moscow Sheremetyevo (264 flights or 6.4 percent less flights than on the same time last year), Kaliningrad – St. Petersburg (237 flights or 21.1 percent more flights than on the same time last year), St. Petersburg – Kaliningrad (235 flights or 21.9 percent more flights than last year), Moscow Sheremetyevo – Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (220 flights or 26 percent more flights), Kaliningrad – Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport (193 flights or 11.4 percent more flights than on the same time last year).
In July of the current year, the top five airlines with the most flights in Lithuanian airspace was the same as in July of last year. The most popular airlines in Lithuanian airspace were Finland’s “Finnair” (2.7 thousand flights or 6.2 percent more flights than last year), Latvia’s “Air Baltic” (2.4 thousand flights or 14 percent more flights than last year), Russia’s “Aeroflot” (1.9 thousand flights or 20 percent more flights than last year), Germany’s “Lufthansa” (1.8 thousand flights or 5.6 percent more flights than last year), and Russia’s “Rosija” (1.4 thousand flights or 1.1 percent more flights than last year).
Over the seven months of the current year, the most popular flight destination in Lithuania was Vilnius – Riga: airplanes of international airlines departed from Vilnius to Riga 1165 times (or 14.4 percent more than on the same time last year). The second most popular destination when departing from Lithuania to other countries was Vilnius – Warsaw where airplanes took off and landed 1119 times (32.7 percent more than last year). The third most popular destination was from Vilnius to the Estonia’s capital city of Tallinn where 615 flights were carried out (3.4 percent less than on the same time last year). The fourth and fifth most popular flight destinations were Vilnius – Helsinki and Vilnius – London Luton Airport (586 and 529 flights accordingly, or 29.8 and 9.9 percent more flights than last year).
In January-July of this year, the most popular flight destinations from foreign airports to Lithuania were Riga-Vilnius (1166 flights, or 15.1 percent more flights than on the same time last year), Warsaw-Vilnius (1125 flights, or 22.7 percent more flights), Tallinn-Vilnius (617 flights or 2.6 percent more flights than last year), Helsinki-Vilnius (584 flights or 29.3 percent more flights than last year), and London Luton Airport-Vilnius (533 flights or 9.8 percent more flights than last year).
Over seven months of this year, the most popular flight destinations of transit routes through Lithuania were as follows: Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport – Moscow Sheremetyevo (1739 flights or 3.6 percent less flights than on the same time last year), Kaliningrad – St. Petersburg (1307 flights or 19.7 percent more flights than last year), St. Petersburg – Kaliningrad (1307 flights or 19.3 percent more flights than last year), Moscow Sheremetyevo – Paris Charles de Gaulle (1304 flights or 19.6 percent more flights), and Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport – Frankfurt (1236 flights or 14.7 percent more flights than on the same time last year).
About three quarters of all flights carried out in Lithuanian airspace comprise of transit flights during which aircraft fly through the airspace of the Republic of Lithuania, but depart and land in the airports of other countries. Airlines pay route charges for air navigation services provided for the airlines during these flights. When planes depart from one of the Lithuanian airports, a terminal fee is paid for air navigation services provided to the airlines.
More than 30 thousand flights are carried out in Europe each day. More than 900 airlines include Lithuanian airspace into their routes. Air navigation services are provided to airplanes from the moment of their departure from the aircraft parking area until the moment of their landing in an appropriate aerodrome in order to ensure that all flights are carried out safely, efficiently and on time. In Lithuanian airspace and Lithuanian airports, these services are provided by the state enterprise Oro navigacija.
