New Lithuanian political party founded ahead of elections

Non-affiliated MP Naglis Puteikis, who took part in the meeting, confirmed a new party has been established, but said he was not a founder.

“I did not form this party; I was only invited to be its moderator. The party was established by residents of Panevėžys, Ukmergė, Trakai, Klaipėda, and Kaunas. I do like their idea and I believe I would join their party if I am ever invited,” the politician told Elta.

MP Puteikis says that the PNPD party focuses its platform on the raising the level of tax-exempt income as the main method of fighting poverty, depression, alcoholism, and emigration. The new political party will proposing to fund the tax relieves by cutting state governance costs, first of all, those related to parliament. The party also speaks of reinstating lay judges in courts.

Data held by the Justice Ministry shows that currently Lithuania has 38 registered political parties with a total membership of nearly 108,000.
