“Feeding 1,000 soldiers costs at least €2 million annually. Obviously, the lion’s share of the funds will remain in Lithuania, in the pockets of producers, suppliers and food service providers. Local builders will have both work and earnings,” said Lithuanian National Defense Minister Juozas Olekas.
The money spent by the troops on leisure activities in their free time will also provide a significant boost to businesses in that sector.
The deployment of allied troops to Lithuania is expected to begin early next year, most probably in February.
