“The Central terminal of Klaipėda is one of the most important projects implemented in this port. The facilities offered by the modern terminal allow to develop an efficient passenger and cargo transportation via the port of Klaipėda, promote marine tourism, and, therefore, creates benefits for the whole seaport,” said Transport and Communications Minister Rimantas Sinkevičius.
According to Arvydas Vaitkus, director general of Klaipėda Seaport Authority, the terminal has clear advantages, i.e., developed infrastructure adapted for new type of cargo ships (ro-ro) and passenger ships (ro-pax) increased the potential of storage for new cars as well as of their distribution.
The terminal can accommodate three ships simultaneously. The modern adjustable ramps installed in the terminal are suitable for the new ro-ro type ships and can withstand heavy loads, adapted to unload heavy equipment.
Klaipėda port area is equipped with all the necessary infrastructure, engineering communications, control checkpoints and cargo storage allowing serving 6 million tons of cargo and approximately 500,000 passengers per year.
