The new ruling coalition in the Lithuanian capital will consist of 16 members of the Liberal Movement, including Šimašius, eight members of the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, four Social Democrats as well as three members of the Lithuanian List party and the Order and Justice party each.

Ten councilors representing the Valdemar Tomaševski Block of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania and the Lithuanian Freedom Union, led by former mayor Atūras Zuokas, with six seats on the council, will form the opposition.

Šimašius says the municipality will, first of all, focus on new kindergarten places in Vilnius as well as stepping up effectiveness of municipal enterprises and improving public procurement standards.

“We must prove that the municipality can be effective, goal-oriented and transparent,” Šimašius said in his congratulation speech.
