No interest in amber mining on Lithuanian coast

DELFI / Mindaugas Ažušilis

The Lithuanian Geological Service says that they had received enquiries before the call for tenders was issued a month ago, there does not seem to be much interest in amber mining.

“Perhaps the summer is to blame… Or it might be down to higher taxes on the raw material,” Vytautas Antanas Januška of the Lithuanian Geological Service has told Lietuvos Žinios.

It is estimated that the Juodrkantė deposit contains amber worth some €41 million.
