Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Kim Jong Un decided to cancel his trip to Russia due to domestic issues.
“He decided to stay in Pyongyang. The decision was passed to us via diplomatic channels. It has to do with domestic issues. It’s his decision,” Peskov told the Russian media.
The North Korean leader was to be one of the most controversial guests in Moscow on 9 May, the so-called Victory Day celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.
Many Western leaders turned down the invitation in protest of Russia’s current policies in Ukraine.
