Most indicators of organ donation and transplantation in the first half of 2016 were even better than in the same period last year, the National Transplantation Bureau under the Ministry of Health announces.
Moreover, the year 2015 were the most successful in the Lithuanian organ donation and transplantation history.
This year, 32 people became donors after their death – four more than last year.
There have also been fewer cases of relatives of the deceased objecting to organ donation, 10 over the first six months of 2016 (or 19%), as compared to 12 (or 22%) during the same period last year.
In all, 22,618 people in Lithuania (7,870 men and 14,748 women) have expressly agreed to donate their organs or tissues after their death.
