As many as 44 candidates on the list of the Peasant and Greens Union (LVŽS) are not party members, a third of the total.
“Unlike other political forces, we did not require that our candidates become members of the LVŽS. Owing to such position, this year more non-party candidates will take part in the elections than four years ago,” said LVŽS chairman Ramūnas Karbauskis.
According to the Central Electoral Commission, 51 non party candidates were registered in the 2012 elections. This year, the commission has registered 32 non party candidates in addition to the 44 running on the LVŽS list.
“As we have said repeatedly, our priority – professionals, experts in their fields who can be entrusted with the most important areas of public administration. Such people, as you know, even with the desire and ambition to take leadership, usually do not participate in elections, they do not want to associate themselves with any party directly. Our proposed option seemed acceptable to professionals, so the non-party candidates represent a third of the LVŽS list,” said Ramūnas Karbauskis.
Former Interior Minister Saulius Skvernelis, Eugenijus Jovaiša, Aurelijus Veryga, Stasys Jakeliūnas, Gouda Burokienė, Virgilijus Poderys are some of the non-member candidates on the party’s candidate list.
