“I had breakfast with the leaders of all groups, both from the position and the opposition, and there was agreement that the social model would be passed by Jul. 1. Its role and significance is huge,” he said during a Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists congress on Wednesday.
Seimas Speaker Loreta Graužinienė has said recently that the social model may be adopted in the fall. According her, the Seimas must ensure that the Labour Code and other bills within the package are well-written, error-free and not contradictory.
The Seimas has finished debating all 256 articles of the Labor Code, but has only voted on individual articles.
The Labour Code as a whole will come up for a vote before the full Seimas after the bill and new proposals have been discussed by the parliament’s committees.
It is planned that the new Labour Code will be take effect in early 2017.
