“Obviously, people voted for changes and against the coalition that is knee- deep in scandals. However, the election is not over yet – the electorate will make its final decision in the second round on who they trust to rule the country,” she said in a comment communicated to BNS by her press service.

According to preliminary data from most of Lithuania’s polling stations, the Peasant and Green Union won the highest number of the vote, just ahead of the conservative Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats, leaving the ruling Social Democratic Party in third.

Other parties winning mandates in multi-member voting are the Liberal Movement, the coalition of the Electoral Action of Poles in Lithuania and the Union of Christian Families, as well as the Order and Justice party. Out of the current ruling parties, the Labour Party failed to cross the five-percent threshold in multi-member voting.

A total of 14 political forces competed for the elections, including 12 parties and two coalitions, consisting of two parties each.
