Plan to oust me has been in place for a while, says Butkevičius

“This plan has already been prepared long ago. After I returned from vacation I found a little note on the table where it was written that the prime minister might suffer many more political attacks. It must be realized that the parliamentary elections are coming. If the prime minister is changed, it would be much simpler for the other parties to compete in the elections. But I never work for ratings, my duty is to do the things that need to be done in the near future,” said Butkevičius when asked whether there was an intention to oust him.

Back at work after a two-week vacation, the Prime Minister said that the political battle ahead of the upcoming elections had begun early this year.

“I want to say that I, as a prime minister, will not represent anyone’s interests – neither party members nor acquaintances nor business people’s. My goal during my term is to leave the work that will be remembered in Lithuania’s history,” he said

“For me personally it is very embarrassing when there are attempts tar the prime minister when it comes to allegations of corruption in the government. If I get to know that such cases are linked to one or another person, the decision will be taken on the same day,” said Butkevičius.
