Plaque to Lithuanian 1918 independence act signatories to be unveiled in Latvia’s Liepaja

The granite plaque was created by sculptor Marijonas Šlektavičius at the initiative of Lithuania’s embassy in Riga and with support from the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry.

The plaque will commemorate Stanislovas Narutavičius, Aleksandras Stulginskis and Jonas Smilgevičius, the Lithuanian signatories whose studied at the then Liepaja Gymnasium at different times.

The former high school building currently houses the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences of Liepaja University.

The plaque will be unveiled in an official ceremony scheduled for next week.
