“We need to wait for the upcoming [2016] parliamentary elections. As I said earlier, work in the executive is closer to my heart. And we are not even discussing the upcoming presidential elections in the party, and in the family we are not even thinking about making the decision to participate in presidential elections,” Butkevičius told the radio Žinių Radijas.
According to the prime minister, the presidential election that will take place in 2019, after the end of the second term of Dalia Grybauskaitė, are still quite far and many things can change. He said that “The main thing is to maintain good relations among the prime minister, the president and the parliament speaker. This is a huge asset. I can say that the relationship is currently normal.”
According to a survey conducted by the pollster Baltijos Tyrimai in late November, Butkevičius is the third most popular politician in the country with the approval rating of 62%. He is behind former President Valdas Adamkus and the incumbent Dalia Grybauskaitė.
