“Unions in the Interior Ministry’s system have started politicking,” Butkevičius told Žinių Radijas on Thursday morning, adding that rules state that law enforcement unions must be politically neutral.
Service rules prohibit law enforcement officers to join political parties, Butkevičius said, yet “leaders of some unions are planning to take part in the elections”.
President Dalia Grybauskaitė appointed Žilinskas as Minister of the Interior on Wednesday, to replace Saulius Skvernelis in the post.
